SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND DISABILITY (SEND)
Shepperton Pre-School Special Educational Needs and Disability offer
At Shepperton Preschool, we are dedicated in providing an inclusive environment where every child is celebrated and supported. Our team are passionate about meeting the individual needs of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring they feel safe, valued and empowered to thrive. We work closely in partnership with parents and carers to ensure your child feels happy, safe and is developing through interest led play.
Every child is allocated a key person, who will support them not only with settling into Preschool routines but also in their learning journey. You will get to know your child’s key person well, as they develop a supportive relationship with your child.
We have our SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator) Sarah Shearer and our team of SEND staff, who are always on hand for any concerns or questions you may have. All of whom have experience and training in supporting children on the autistic spectrum, with behavioural and emotional, language and communication needs.
What we offer at Preschool
As a starting point we work on the whole setting providing a Universal offer, ensuring a good basis of support for transitioning into Preschool life is covered in our everyday routines. With visual timetables, Pecs and visual cues, wobble cushions, sensory circuits, and the Sensory room all being on offer to all children throughout the setting. We will provide you with all our policies and procedures e.g. administering medication, allergy procedures, achieving positive behaviour and safeguarding.
We monitor your child’s progress by using observations and records, based upon the areas of learning and development specified in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) (including the two-year check when applicable) to plan for your child and assess the possible need for additional support. If we identify there is a need for additional support, we will work in partnership with you to ensure this support is planned and executed with your child’s very best interests in mind.
Our Setting Support provides an Inclusive Early Years Curriculum, tailored to meet the unique learning styles and developmental needs of each, and every child. We meet them where they are, not where we think they should be.
To enable us to provide a unique learning journey we may need to complete formal or statutory assessments with regards to your child. However, before this happens we gather as much information as possible about your child and family from you, as the expert on your child! This includes asking every family to complete a child profile. We ask that you provide any additional information that you might have available at this time, from other professionals already involved with your child’s care, for example your health visitor or speech and language therapist.
If necessary, we will create a Surrey Support Plan which outlines the desired outcomes for your child; this plots the route to achieving these goals and includes your actions and involvement.
When other professionals are required within your child’s learning journey, we shall of course ensure you as parents and carers, are supported every step of the way. We facilitate referrals and work in partnership with other professionals and Surrey County Council to ensure the best support is provided for your child.
When Specialist Support is required our experienced SEND team will work closely with you and your child’s individualised educational plan. We coordinate with other professionals who may be involved, Occupational therapist, speech and language etc to ensure goals and targets are being met, offering full support along the way. We ensure that each child receives the attention and guidance they deserve to flourish. Where needed we can access early intervention grants and other funding that will enable us to provide ‘enhanced provision’ additional support, staffing and resources to further support your child to our best possible ability.
Our Statutory Support within setting means we can help you to apply for your child’s Educational Health Care Plan EHCP (if required) which enables them to have access to the right support and funding within setting and, more so, when they transition into school. We fully support parents and carers with all diagnosis and paediatric appointments, as we know this can be a daunting road to navigate whilst of course always maintaining confidentiality.
Shepperton Preschool prides itself on being an inclusive and diverse environment where no child gets left behind. We work hard to provide an individual learning experience for all children and families alike. Our team of experienced practitioners have a wealth of knowledge across a range of areas that have been invaluable over the years. If you require added support we find The Local Offer website invaluable; this is for children and young people with additional needs, and their families who help them. On it you will find helpful information and the details of support services in your area.
